For a job in Online Marketing or search engine optimization most people would think that they would need abilities in IT, web construction and may be even coding but in actual fact someone with just low level computing skills could actually be very successful in such a position with a totally different set of attributes.

Because of the perceived training required in the role the majority of people wanting to alter their career or get back to work following redundancy would not even look at this kind of role when in fact they may well be wholly placed to take it on.

The point of Online Marketing is to help clients increase the new business that comes from their websites. This normally translates to more sales via the website or more interest or “leads” from the site, which are then transformed into sales by the business. The aim of the Search Engine Optimisation Company is therefore to ensure that the clients website appears on page one of the search engine results for appropriate and relevant “keywords” entered into the search engine by an impending customer.

Yes, there is a small element of work that is often required on the website itself but most of the role is made up of interaction with your customer. Initially you will need to appreciate the products or services offered by the client. This will normally involve research into the industry and discussions with them. Secondly you will need to understand what type of customers seek those products or services. The client should be able to provide a lot of this information but it may require research too. Thirdly you will need to understand how web browsers who are looking for these products or services actually describe them when using the net. Once these “keywords” have been identified promotion of the site can begin.

Typically businesses have looked to their web designers or their IT team to provide this service but the skills needed to fully optimize a website are not in gereral the ones developed in the job of a web designer and although they would with any luck make an attempt at good Search Engine Placement they can rarely provide the whole package.

So whilst it may not firstly be thought if as an option for a wider amount of people, this career has the ability to provide a profitable, flexible and rewarding career to many people from many different working backgrounds. There are a few quality training courses now available at reasonable costs and they can be used by businesses training in house personnel or by individuals looking to vary their career and find a new career in an upcoming industry.
